School House Rock Jr. - April 21 - April 23, 2023

Agape Theater Company

 Director's Note

“Knowledge is power!”

Who knew when the first episode of Schoolhouse Rock aired on January 6th, 1973 the impact it would have. Through catchy songs and fun animations, Schoolhouse Rock presented major educational concepts that appealed to youth and adults alike.

Now, we have the tremendous opportunity to continue that legacy of empowerment through Agape’s Theater Practicum. For some students this is their first production, for others their one-hundred and first. As an educator, nothing is more rewarding than watching students of all experience levels have an “Ah-ha!” moment in rehearsals as they make discoveries about the text, the world, and themselves.

Many things have changed in our world since 1973 ranging from social perspectives to technological advances. As you enjoy this performance you may notice several of the lyrics have been changed or updated (sorry Pluto, you’ll always be a planet to me.) Yet the foundational elements remain untouched, such as the magic of numbers, the delight of grammar, and the beauty of belonging.

In our world of increasing isolation and individualism, live theater stands out as a truly collaborative experience. Today, I invite you into our school house as active participants. Feel free to sing along and clap your hands to the music as you enjoy the Agape 2023 Practicum Production of School House Rock Live! Jr.
