Act II Players is excited to welcome Ava Fixel to our Board! With her wealth of experience and theater background as well as her generous spirit and creative resources, Ava is helping us "Spit Spot" and always with "a spoonful of sugar"! We are so glad to have her on board!

Ava received her BA from Oswego State in New York and her MA from Stony Brook University in New York. She is currently theatre director at St. Joseph Academy in St. Augustine. Before her position at St. Joseph Academy, she was theatre director at Bartram Trail High School for eighteen years. Her directing credits include Our Town, Dracula, Macbeth, Romeo and Juliet, You Can’t Take It With You, The Visit, The Wizard of Oz, West Side Story, Mary Poppins, The Addams Family, Cinderella, South Pacific, Guys and Dolls, Oklahoma, Bye Bye Birdie, Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan, Eurydice, and many others. Her one-acts have been selected to be performed at state competitions, and she still  enjoys coaching  theatre students.

She is a past chair of District II of the International Thespian Society and is currently its treasurer. She is the founder, with her daughters, of BeatPAC, a performing arts summer camp, which just celebrated its twentieth anniversary.

For several years, Ava wrote and hosted The Success Express, a weekly educational television show on PBS. She occasionally does stand-up comedy and was once named the Funniest Person in America, Jacksonville edition.

Ava is excited to be a part of Act II in its mission to provide the Mandarin/St. Johns community with quality theater. It is a place for actors and techies to develop and exhibit their talents.  Together with our audiences, we hope to grow, and, above all, have a great time.
