Although this is my first year at ASD, I feel so excited to work with this group of actors! This will also be the first year that we have offered our audience both a middle school and a high school performance.
That is because of the enthusiasm of your students! We had so many eager young and talented actors that came to join us! They have worked hard, learned so much and have been wonderful stewards of their craft.
We selected a piece that matched their witty and sarcastic humor, and who doesn't like swords! The play is entirely meant to be satire of and it will comment on the genres that it mocks. It even makes fun of itself, throughout the performance. For anyone who has seen King Lear or Game of Thrones, we are referencing those performances in parts of this play. We also have so Disney princesses, but we have given them a Shakespearean edge, no damsels in distress here! We will use streamers instead of blood as the body count grows throughout the show. And although everyone dies at the end, they die in a ridiculous and dramatic way.
Beyond the stage, I always talk about how much the arts, especially theatre, is important for our students. These students greatly benefit from practicing their social skills and self-confidence. But they also improve their empathy, focus, creativity, and listening skills. Please remember the focus of these programs is on their journey and development.
We thank you so much for supporting our programs and your students. We hope to see you at this and many other performances in the future!
Now please get ready to cheer, laugh, boo, cry and groan at the ridiculous puns! The more interactive you are as an audience, the more helpful it will be to your actors who feed off your reactions and energy!
Please stay to see
