MONONGAHELA - May 24

 A MONSTER RESURFACES

"There is Something in the river....."

Monongahela the movie was filmed in 2012 by then newly formed independent film company 2nd state Productions with the intention of pulling off a full length feature film that looked like a big production, on a small budget and to pull off the entire production from start to finish in the Steel City. This entire film, from script development and casting, to every location and every song featured, reflects the remarkable talents that call the great city of Pittsburgh their home.

The Production itself lasted 38 days from April through March of 2012, and a series of unfortunate events prevented the film from being finished...until now.

In 2021, a collaborative effort between 2nd State and former cast member F. Robert McMurray resulted in the salvaging of the long-lost rough cut from a damaged hard drive thanks due to the talents of Goat Milk Fudge Studio. The hard drive data was recovered, the rough cut restored, and the Monongahela Monster released after more than a decade!

                                                   RELEASE THE BEAST

There is something in the river, or , more like something in the drinking water, there must be to explain the high levels of talent in the Steel City. This film features so many talented people and it just never felt right that Monongahela the movie would lay dormant forever. More than 300 individuals were called just one day for a scene as background talent, and the cast and crew were comprised of more than 30 players each roughly so this project touched alot of people and those people were all excited to be a part of the production, and they all waited hopefully for more than a decade.

From 2013-2021 the story and the film lay dormant, and over the years the many people who contributed to the film would ask why and when, and then Monongahela faded into the background with the world changing and people just stopped asking about the movie. Perhaps the pandemic played a part in shifting focus back to the project. News arrived one day that one cast member had passed away and it shifted focus and renewed my personal commitment to seeing this film finished.

Monongahela cast member F. Robert McMurray is the true Monongahelian hero in the story - Bob reached out and if he hadn't we honestly may not be sitting here this evening ready to enjoy the film. We have all had to wait long enough for this moment and thanks to Bob McMurray without further delay 2nd State Films proudly presents..Monongahela! -CM

Monongahela follows KPGH reporter Kate Walsh as she joins two researchers who have come to Pittsburgh to follow up on reports of a mysterious creature in the Monongahela river.
