Welcome to the 2017 Taylorville High School Spring Musical production of Meredith Willson’s the Music Man!
The Music Man was one of the first musicals I had the privilege to perform in. I fell in love with the small-town Iowan characters, their witty dialogue, and the lively music. But most notably, I was moved by the ways in which Willson used music and dance as a tool to unite a community. Music is moving, it is powerful, and, as Willson so adeptly demonstrates, has the ability to prevail even in the most stubborn of situations.
It was an absolute joy to work with each and every member of the cast and crew. Their innate talent, unceasing energy, and willingness to learn never ceased to impress me. I was honored to have had the opportunity to teach such a fantastic group of students. They have all rehearsed tirelessly to make this production of the Music Man their own and are eager to share their hard work with you. Congratulations! It is well deserved and know that I am very proud of you all!
I must send a special thanks to Music Director Keith Chase for his unwavering dedication, guidance, and help throughout this process. His love for music, teaching, and these students goes without question and I am happy to have spent the last few months working alongside him!
Thanks must also be sent to our production accompanist Cindy Enzor for her enthusiasm and incredible talent, to Chris Gunn, Jean Ninmer, Russ Burch, and all the members of the THS Pit, to Sandy Hooper for her great help with costuming the cast, and to Mr. Mathis and the THS Art Club for their wonderful job on painting the set.
I want to additionally thank all the parents and guardians for allowing your children to be a part of this production, for driving them to rehearsals, and working around the scheduling! To my husband, Patrick, for going above and beyond to help whenever I needed it and for supporting me taking on another project! Finally, I would like to thank you, our audience members, for showing your support for the arts.
