James and the Giant Peach JR - March 06 - March 08, 2018

Oakwood Terrace Elementary School

 From the Director...

Based on one of Roald Dahl’s most poignantly quirky stories, Roald Dahl's James and the Giant Peach JR. is a brand new take on this "masterpeach" of a tale.  Featuring a magically tuneful score and a witty and charming book, this adventurous musical about courage and self-discovery is destined to be a classic.

When James is sent by his conniving aunts to chop down their old fruit tree, he discovers a magic potion that grows a tremendous peach, rolls into the ocean and launches a journey of enormous proportions. James befriends a collection of singing insects that ride the giant piece of fruit across the ocean, facing hunger, sharks and plenty of disagreements along the way.

The thirty-five students preparing to take the stage have worked nearly sixty hours over the past two months: practicing songs, learning choreography, and memorizing lines.  This year's show was very challenging -- nearly twice as long as last year's production of The Lion King KIDS.  But the amazing kids who are about to perform for you have risen to the task.

This production would not have been possible without the help and support of many people.  I would like to thank...

Mrs. Garcia, Mrs. Neill, and the rest of the OTE faculty and staff for their support of our school's music and theater activities.

Mrs. Allbee and Mrs. Chavez for helping with the popcorn fundraiser and about a hundred other things that I can't remember.

Mrs. Matos for her translations of permission forms and information letters.

Mrs. Smith for typing the students' bios for the Playbill.

Mrs. Srianekkul, Mrs. Cannedy, Mrs. Reeves, Mrs. Loerwald, and Mrs. Harris for their help with auditions and casting.

Mrs. Loerwald, because When I ask, "Can you make _____," she always says "Sure, I can do that."

The Hurst Seventh-Day Adventist Church for letting me borrow the fog machine I found in the attic.

My wife, Angela, and my children, Joy and Isaac, for their patience and support on all those days when I was late getting home from work or working on my computer during family time.  I love you!
