The Addams Family - February 16 - February 18, 2018

Honesdale High School

 DIRECTOR'S NOTES

Dear Friends of the Theater,

Welcome to the Honesdale High School Performing Arts Center!  For fifty-nine years, Honesdale High School Performing Arts have helped define our community both onstage and off.  The performance you are attending today is a part of our 2017-2018 Performing Arts Season at the Wayne Highlands School District.

We are excited and honored to welcome you to our Honesdale High School musical production of The Addams Family - A New Musical Comedy.  Our musical cast, stage crew, and pit orchestra is made up of dozens of students from our high school.

Our show today takes us to upside-down world of the Addams Family, to be sad is to be happy, to feel pain is to feel joy, and death and suffering are the stuff of their dreams. Nonetheless, this quirky family still has to deal with many of the same challenges faced by any other family. The spookiest nightmare faced by every family created the focus of Lippa, Brickman, and Elice’s musical: the Addams kids are growing up.

The Addams have lived by their unique values for hundreds of years and Gomez and Morticia would be only too happy to continue living that way. Their dark, macabre, beloved daughter Wednesday, however, is now an eighteen year-old young woman who is ready for a life of her own.

She has fallen in love with Lucas Beineke, a sweet, smart boy from a normal, respectable Ohio family — the most un-Addams sounding person one could be! And to make matters worse, she has invited the Beinekes to their home for dinner. In one fateful, hilarious night, secrets are disclosed, relationships are tested, and the Addams family must face up to the one horrible thing they’ve managed to avoid for generations: change.

We are confident that you will have a memorable time in our theater and hope that you will share your experience with friends and family so that they can enjoy the cultural treasures available to everyone here in our community.

The spirit of collaboration has always been a hallmark of Honesdale.  We believe, with our board of directors, that the Wayne Highlands School District is proud of our success in the area of the three “A’s” Academics, Arts, and Athletics.  Education is a lifelong endeavor. The arts provide opportunities to use valuable critical thinking skills and explore diverse perspectives.

Thank you for your attendance and support at this performance.  We look forward to seeing you back in the very near future.  In the meantime, sit back, relax, and get ready, as we bring the best of Broadway to you through our student musical productions.

Patrons like you make the Center’s presentations possible when the lights go down and curtain goes up.  Enjoy the Show!

Sincerely yours,

SDM
